Not all AV cables are the same. In the following paragraphs is a description of the different types of cables and connectors available.
Audio signal cables: Audio signal cables are screened, meaning the outer conductor wraps around the other conductor(s) to shield them from electromagnetic interference. Amber Technology’s range of audio signal cables from AmberTec, Australian Monitor, Canare and Liberty AV are available in a range of lengths of up to 100 metres.
Speaker cables: We offer a selection of speaker cables and audio visual cabling from Accent Audio, Australian Monitor, Liberty AV and Van Damme with lengths of up to 300 metres for a range of audio equipment speakers setups. You would use speaker cables when setting up your home stereo system.
Auxiliary or aux cables are a type of universal audio cable used to transmit audio. You can use aux cable for tv, smartphones, tablets, portable speakers, and headphones.
Video cables: Choose from our wide selection of video cables from Australian Monitor, Wyrestorm, Canare and Liberty AV in varying lengths of up to 100 metres. We offer high-speed ethernet cables, 4K video cables, active EQ, active HDMI, coaxial video cables, active optical cables, fibre optic male to male cables and more.
In addition to cables that are specifically designed to transmit audio or video, you can buy an audio video cable that can transmit both types of signals (colloquially you might refer to this as a composite av cable).
How do av cables work? AV cables can be of various types, depending on the number of sound channels, how many video channels and the amount of control signals. AV cables are used to connect display sources to output like TV or speakers.

When looking at av input cable, they are often colour-coded. Yellow is used for composite video, red for the right audio channel, and white or black for the left channel of stereo audio. This trio (or pair) of jacks can often be found on the back of audio and video equipment.

Connectors and adaptors can sometimes be confused. Connectors join two or more cables together or connect a cable to a device.
Adapters change the way a cable plugs into a device like computers, if the connector that is installed on the cable is not compatible. An AV cable adapter (also known as an av cord adapter or av adapter cable) is a handy way to make existing pieces of equipment compatible and connect to each other.
