Guitar Amp Simulator & DI Box

The JDX Direct-Drive is a unique and powerful device that emulates the sound of a guitar amplifier while doubling as a direct box, providing a realistic amp sound that allows you to play a gig without needing an amp on stage.

  • Guitar amp simulator for pedalboards
  • Eliminates need to bring an amp to the gig
  • 4 x 12 half-stack & open back combo tones
  • Employs Radial’s popular JDX tone shaping

Classic amp tones in a compact pedal

The Direct-Drive is an amp simulator designed for your pedalboard, providing a realistic amp tone that can be connected directly to the PA system. Three amplifier voicing options are provided: the first is the popular JDX tone which simulates the sound of an SM57 microphone on a 4x12 cabinet. The second setting is similar in character to a British tube head amplifier, while the remaining tone is modeled after a clean twin combo amp. With three classic voicings available, the Direct-Drive provides a natural amp tone through the PA system and consistency from night to night.

JDX Direct-Drive Applications

Using the Direct-Drive without an amp

Connect your pedals to the Direct-Drive and enjoy the natural tone of a guitar amp using the PA system or monitors instead of an amp. Select between three voice settings to find the one that works best.

Using the Direct-Drive with your amp

Use the Direct-Drive at the output of your pedalboard to feed your amp and the PA at the same time. This allows the engineer to mix the two signals to get the best tone out of the PA system.

Using the Direct-Drive for silent recording

With the Direct-Drive as your amp, quietly record your guitar directly from your pedalboard. Use the ¼" output to feed an effects processor and mix to create amazing tonal textures.

Your Guitar, Your Pedals, No Amp

Record silently while still getting the tone you’re familiar with from your pedals. Below are examples of the audio captured from a pedalboard with and without the JDX Direct-Drive.

Reviews

"The JDX Direct-Drive does a great job... I love its all-analog simplicity and it's been easy to travel to rehearsals with nothing but my guitar and pedalboard, with the JDX Direct-Drive comfortably mounted next to the rest of my pedals."

By Alex Hawley

"The Direct-Drive is a fantastic tool for fly dates, studio sessions, and impromptu gigs where you can't grab your rig. It's also a Saviour Machine, because if my amp ever goes down for whatever reason, I'm going to be thankful the Direct-Drive can be plugged right in to save the show."

By Michael Molenda

"Overall, the JDX Direct-Drive compares well with other all-analogue speaker emulators on sound, and it also functions as a very high-quality DI box and signal splitter, all built to the high standard we’ve come to expect from Radial."

By Paul White

"It's a highly rugged DI for recording and a worthy backup for when those tubes hit the skids in the middle of your gig... Radial is known for making heavy-duty boxes that tend to simply make your life easier. The Direct-Drive is a worthy heir to that tradition."

"I recently tried the Tonebone JDX Direct Drive by Radial. It sounds amazing and I love its simplicity. I really like that the thru output is unaffected and that there's a polarity switch onboard. In most live situations when using this pedal, I would blend the DI sound with a mic’d amp. You guys produce fantastic stuff."

Producer/engineer/musician - Kelly Clarkson, The Fratellis, Simple Minds, Echo & The Bunnymen, Belle & Sebastian

"We recently checked out the Radial JDX Direct Drive in preproduction rehearsals. The Direct Drive blew everyone away. When running the DI out from the Direct Drive, we got 100% repeatability of the signal from the Direct Drive. I used the thru out into a combo amp to generate feedback, but we didn't even mic it up as we were all so happy with the sound from the Direct Drive. It’s now permanently on my pedalboard. Thank you Radial."

Richard Maranon

Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter - Ana Barbara, Gloria Trevi, Christian Castro, Luz Rios

"The Radial JDX Direct-Drive has been a little sonic savior for me. I’ve done countless shows in the U.S., Mexico, Central and South America. For shows in the U.S, I bring my own rig but outside the country, I rely on the backline provided. The beauty of the Direct-Drive is that I don’t need to rely on an amp and my tone is consistent and sounds great. It’s also pretty cool to record with and running the Direct-Drive before my interface gives my guitar tone more depth and sparkle. I can tell that Radial really thought this through. Thanks Radial."

Ben O'Neill

John Legend, Jill Scott, Common, Kid Cudi

"The Radial Direct-Drive is one of those rare pieces that truly exceeds expectations. It is a fly-date game changer."
